Hello! Welcome to August!! Where does time go? Sometimes, it seems as if the days drag on for-ev-er (Sandlot style), but then the calendar is like, “Heeeey! It’s the eighth month of the year! Time to get your shit together!”
Anyway. Shit is not together. But, I feel great! I went to yoga this morning for the first time in a couple months and it was fabulous! There’s this place in Dana Point Harbor, i heart yoga, that I’ve been toying with the idea of checking out for several months. Actually, that’s a lie. When we moved here (today is our two year anniversary!), a friend sent me the link to this studio, as it had just opened, and I toyed with the idea of checking it out then, but one thing led to another and here we are. See above. Where does time go?
I specifically picked out a ‘Gentle Flow’ class for two reasons: a) it’s been a hot minute since I vinyasaed and b) I didn’t want to feel completely exhausted before CrossFit. You guys! The class was peeeerfect for my body today! We started out in Supported Reclining Butterfly … need I say more? Probably not, but I will!
We spent a little bit of time seated and on hands and knees, gently opening up the spine and hips. We gradually moved into some standing postures and did a tiny bit of easy flowing. We had to hold chair pose for what felt like an hour, but was probably only two deep breaths. I thought my quads might explode.
Side note: how is it that I can squat and deadlift 200+ pounds, but holding a static, unweighted posture is the death of me?! An area room improvement, among many others … noted!
The teacher, Bree, gave some amazing cues that I’d never heard before, which allowed me to find a deeper expression of some poses. One that comes to mind right now is when we were in plank, she invited us to “reach our inner thighs toward the sky, but keep the tailbone reaching toward the heels, and allow the front of the hip bones to come toward the top of the ribs”. <— That was super helpful for finding firmness throughout my core and lower body! In conclusion, the class was fab and I plan to go back tomorrow. I can’t wait! My body is going to thank me 100x over! I feel like I want to do some type of gentle flow/restorative/yin class every freaking day.
Other than yoga today, life has been great! Anthony and I returned home from Vegas last Thursday night (well, technically, Friday morning), and we’ve settled right back into the flow of life. I started training my clients again this week (new location, thank goodness!) and have cooked at home four days in a row! That’s a huge feat for us. Something we’ve been talking about changing for a long time, but I didn’t have the mind space to let it be a thing. I think when we work for somebody/at someplace that we don’t jive with, it can really eff with our mind (and cause me a ton of anxiety that’s unnecessary), so I’ve particularly thankful for my new work home.Oh, oh! I passed my CrossFit Level 1 Course test! Woohoo! I’m not teaching classes, yet, but that’s a goal for me within the next couple of months. I have to pass my CF box’s in-house test before that’s even an option. There’s zero doubt in my mind that that test will be about 5x more challenging than the test I just took. That’s okay, though, I want to be well rounded and prepared!
Also, I taught a class in the park! It was fabulous! Hope to make this a regular thing!
That’s about all for now. Lucy is barking at me, as it’s 10 minutes past 5pm, and she’s hangry, so off I go. I hope you’re having a lovely week!
